Vietnam, Denmark exchange experience in green growth
A seminar on green growth was held here Monday to exchange experience and transfer technologies to reduce climate change impacts while achieve a sustainable growth.
The seminar, jointly organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) and the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam, was held on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Denmark when Danish crown prince Frederik's pays a visit to Vietnam.
Vietnam highly appreciates cooperation in the field with Denmark. The country is now seeking models for sustainable economic development which should not impact the bio-diversity. Vietnam attaches importance to cooperation on the transfer of clean and bio-energy technologies, MNRE Deputy Minister Tran Hong Ha said.
Danish Minister for Trade and Investment, Pia Olsen Dyhr said Vietnam and Denmark share similarities in addressing climate change and environment problems. Danish companies pay much attention to developing trade cooperation with Vietnam, with focus on projects for the support of green technologies.
According to Phuong Hoang Kim, deputy chief of the Science- Technology Department, under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, there are two major groups of power consumers in Vietnam, including industrial zones and civilians. About 37 percent of the nation's power is generated from the hydro-electric power plants, while 32 percent are imported.
Kim also said that during 2010-2030, Vietnam's power consumption will be tripled.
Danish experts at the seminar presented plans for power saving, wind power, approach of clean power, green technologies used in cement production, design of green buildings, and others.
